Interesting.  I may revisit that sometime soon, then.

For your situation?  Probably not, unless you want to work with the recent
additions to the system.  In any event you'd have to compile your own
kernel, as the GENERIC kernel isn't set up to include all of the necessary
parts (in the interest of keeping the kernel size manageable).
