If you are going to be running the X Window System, get a 3-button 
mouse.  I'm happy with my Logitech MouseMan.  Also, if your motherboard 
has a PS/2 mouse port, use it and leave your serial port free.  You 
never know when you might want to plug in that spare modem (or make a 
PPP connection to a laptop, or whatever).
