Re: NetBSD 9.3 and Amiga loadbsd

I'm confused. This is a patch from last October which adds the trailing
"\n\"s in the usage text, which should always have been there. Also your
latest release, which I tried yesterday, had them, and there was no
difference to my Loadbsd 3.1 source in this section.

That's absolutely ok. Nevertheless, it should be our goal to produce a C
source which works with more gcc versions than one specific cross compiler.

Otherwise we face the same problem in the future again, with a different
Amiga-port of gcc.

So we are talking about src/sys/arch/amiga/stand/loadbsd/loadbsd.c 1.36?

This is a strange version. It has
---8<---
 *      3.0     01/16/03 - ELF support through loadfile() interface.
 */
static const char _version[] = "$VER: LoadBSD 3.0 (16.1.2003)";
---8<---

...and seems to be the first version with ELF support from 2003, although it
already got the -C option for serial console, patched in with 1.35 in 2011.

I got LoadBSD 3.1 directly from Gunther Nikl (who, as I understand, did
these last changes?), with working serial port included. And here also the
version was updated in the source:

---8<---
 *  3.1 07/10/11 - Added a serial console flag
 *      11/18/15 - Added detection of A600.
 * Fix handling of multiple -n options.
 */
static const char _version[] = "$VER: LoadBSD 3.1 (18.11.2015)";
---8<---

You find my loadbsd.c attached. I guess that at least the modifications from
2015 are missing in yours.

> I didn't really care about warnings

You should. It's a few years ago since I committed my last NetBSD code, but
I seem to remember that warnings are not tolerated. ;)

> I incorporated files as needed,
> removing code instead if I could get away with it (to minimize

Minimizing dependencies it a good thing, but err.h provided the prototype
for the err() function, so you got some warnings now because you were using
err() without a prototype.

As loadbsd.c implements its own err() I would agree to remove the standard
err.h include, but we have to add the prototype on top of the source, to
get rid of the warnings.

I think this is the most common gcc-version which was used running natively
under AmigaOS in the past. V2.95.3 from ADE(?). It's running on my
A3000/060 with AmigaOS 3.9.

This gcc version generates a.out-format object files, but the linker turns
them into working hunk-format executables.

> Where do you get the relevant AmigaOS headers from?

They were part of this gcc installation. Looks like they define
"INCLUDE_VERSION 44", so it might be from the OS3.5 NDK? I know that the
NDK-3.9 is version 45.

But that doesn't matter much, as any NDK since 3.0 should work.

I have access (at least a few years ago), but I don't remember what to
update, to make thus new binary part of the next release... :|

NAME\n\
\t%s - loads NetBSD from amiga dos.\n\
SYNOPSIS\n\
\t%s [-abhkpstADSVZ] [-c machine] [-m mem] [-n flags] [-I sync-inhibit] kernel\n\
OPTIONS\n\
\t-a Boot up to multiuser mode.\n\
\t-A Use AGA display mode, if available.\n\
\t-b Ask for which root device.\n\
\t Its possible to have multiple roots and choose between them.\n\
\t-c  Set machine type. [e.g 3000; use 32000+N for DraCo rev. N]\n\
\t-C  Use Serial Console.\n\
\t-D  Enter debugger\n\
\t-h  This help message.\n\
\t-I Inhibit sync negotiation. Option value is bit-encoded targets.\n\
\t-k Reserve the first 4M of fast mem [Some one else\n\
\t is going to have to answer what that it is used for].\n\
\t-m Tweak amount of available memory, for finding minimum amount\n\
\t of memory required to run. Sets fastmem size to specified\n\
\t    size in Kbytes.\n\
\t-n  Enable multiple non-contiguous memory: value = 0 (disabled),\n\
\t    1 (two segments), 2 (all avail segments), 3 (same as 2?).\n\
\t-p Use highest priority fastmem segement instead of the largest\n\
\t segment. The higher priority segment is usually faster\n\
\t (i.e. 32 bit memory), but some people have smaller amounts\n\
\t    of 32 bit memory.\n\
\t-q Boot up in quiet mode.\n\
\t-s Boot up in singleuser mode (default).\n\
\t-S  Include kernel symbol table.\n\
\t-t This is a *test* option. It prints out the memory\n\
\t list information being passed to the kernel and also\n\
\t exits without actually starting NetBSD.\n\
\t-v Boot up in verbose mode.\n\
\t-V  Version of loadbsd program.\n\
\t-Z Force kernel load to chipmem.\n\
HISTORY\n\
\tThis version supports Kernel version 720 +\n",
      program_name, program_name);
