and then it crashed.

Since Kurt indicated problems around the pci mem hole (one setting caused a boot 
crash) I decided to try setting the "hardware pci hole" to enabled - I don't 
have a 'software' setting in the BIOS, as he does on the ULTRA40.

That got only a tiny bit farther, so I suspect it's not the issue. I guess the 
next step is either starting/ignoring (this isn't an MULTIPROCESSOR kernel) the 
CPUs, or setting up wsdisplay?

But I notice that the ~1GB of "missing" memory has reappeared...

Help? I'm really out of my element here :-(
