 I eventually resolved the MySQL problem and it works great on 3.0.1
 
 My "fix" is not needed - in fact, my "fix" is wrong, as I got that from a web 
page about this error.
 
 It "appeared" to work but then all it really did was permit the compile to 
complete - but it did not work properly.

 The "correct fix" was to delete all of my LAMP-related files via "make 
clean-depends" in each of the respective directories.
 
 Then, I followed the instructions at 
http://wiki.netbsd.se/How_to_install_a_LAMP_Server VERY closely.
 
 
 Thanks.  This can be closed; perphaps a pointer to the above-mentioned URL 
could be put into the documentation somewhere?
