 I no-longer have a machine running an affected OS version readily
 available, but will try to set one up for testing as soon as I can.
 
 Your log message appears to indicate that the test bypass is conditional
 on the Darwin/MacOS X version, yes?  MacOS X 10.3 (Darwin 7) and later
 have full wchar support and are not affected by the problem reported
 in this PR.
