Responding to myself...

I want a layer 2 tunnel between two bridges in different servers. Connected to the bridges are various xen DOMUs. But I fail completely to figure out how to set up the tunnel.

I've figured this out now. No IP addresses on the etherip0 interfaces and then

boxA# ifconfig etherip0 tunnel 10.1.0.1 10.1.0.2
boxB# ifconfig etherip0 tunnel 10.1.0.2 10.1.0.1

i.e. the src and dst for the tunnel is not in any way the etherip0, but rather the physical interface in each box (rather obvious once I realised it). This did the trick and it is working fine.

Regards,

Johan
