Is there an easy way to find a key's scancode?

I've hacked an i-opener, and am attempting to get an escape key
working. I was attempting to change the "back" key (which is roughly
where an escape key should be) which produces "^[[11~" - I thought this
was f11, so I tried a quick hack in /dev/pckbc/wskbdmap_mfii.c, changing a
few things around for the US keyboard definition.

Needless to say, it didn't work.

Is there an easy way to figure out the scancode for a given key, so I can
make it look like an escape key?

TIA.
