I fail to see the logic behind why an implicit list of mount points is
OK with -l or -t but an explicit list isn't.

I'd say, make df behave the same for -l or -t whether an explicit list
of mount points is given as arguments or not.  In fact, this could be
handy if you want to check the same mounted filesystems on several
machines where you don't know beforehand which file system is mount
local or remote on any given machine.
