Hmmm...  I've never seen this problem, myself, but I always shutdown
with "-r now" (reboot) or "-h now" (halt).  If you didn't use one of
these two options, you might have caught it trying to update the disk
when you shutdown.

To recover, you might try Disk First Aid or try updating the driver with
HD SC Setup (from your Disk Tools disk).
