Thanks Matthias,

the cvs worked.
the kernel built.
and booted.
but had same effect with ipod on the umass.
ie no joy.

however an old disk of ubuntu works.
i installed this on some old hardware and it mounts
the 5.5g ipod straight away.
the're doing something we need to do:)?
