I have a similar problem with a Quadra 840AV. This machine drops
packets while struggling with the heavy i/o that cvs imposes. I find
"-z9" works better for it. It tends to get the whole thing in a few
large chunks before hitting the disk. Once you have the head directory
you can "cvs -z9 update -P -d" within it. Repeat as necessary. :-)
