Sun-lamp is not the machine where the source tree is kept, and it updates 
itself from the source server regularly.  This is done to balance load, 
as you suggest.  I think the `sun-lamp CVS commits' subject: header is 
simply historical.  Sun-lamp is also not the mail server, hence mail has 
been working.
